Festival season: get your camping gear for less
Filed under: Economiser, Travel, Entertainment
Festival season is here, which can only mean one thing - torrential downpours and rivers of mud. No, just kidding. All the weather experts have predicted a hot summer for the UK so I've got my fingers crossed.
If you've got festival tickets for the summer and you're staring to think about what you'll need, look no further. I've rounded up a whole load of good value camping equipment to suit just about everyone. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a camping virgin, if you want great kit or something fun for the festivals there's something here for everyone.
Read on to find out where to buy everything you need to ensure you have a fantastic festival.
Firstly it's probably worth saying that with camping gear, paying a reasonable amount will get you some good kit, and buying the cheapest available will probably mean it just about does what you want it to do. So if you are simply buying for festivals, it's probably not worth spending big money, just in case your stuff does get ruined. If you're planning on using it all for camping trips in the future though, it might be worth spending a bit more to get something really decent.
N.B. All the Aldi products mentioned are available instore from tomorrow (June 11th) and once they're gone, they're gone!
Tents
You could spend hundreds of pounds on a tent, but unless you plan to spend a lot of time in it, you can definately get a good one for a lot less. All the tents I've found are two-man. As a general rule if the weather is OK, you can usually squeeze a third person in, but if it's raining and any of you are touching the sides, you're going to get wet!
Perfect for first-timers who are planning on doing some camping again, this Vango 300 tent is a great buy, and reasonably priced at £44.95.
If you fancy something a bit more fun, then Eurohike tents are for you. Just £39.99 at the moment in Millets - a saving of £10 - there are a few different designs, all of which will make your tent easy to spot!
For the complete beginners, Eurohike also has a fantastic value 'tent pack'. It's on offer for £47.99 in Millets (that's £12 off the RRP) and you get a two-man tent, two sleeping mats and two sleeping bags.
Sleeping Bags
Another thing you could spend a small fortune on. The cheapest out there is a rectangular bag from Aldi which is just £6.99. If you'd prefer something a little more hard-wearing Blacks, Millets and Snow + Rock all have a good selection - it's probably worth going in to ask the advice of the staff, depending on exactly what you want and how much you want to spend.
Sleeping Mats
For value you can't beat Aldi's inflatable airbeds - £7.99 for a single, and £9.99 for a double.
Waterproofs
OK, so I know I said a hot summer was predicted, but you know what the British weather's like - better safe than sorry. Millets has a great selection of waterproof jackets for men and women that pack down into tiny little bags - perfect for festivals as they barely take up any space. Even better, right now you can get £4 off them, so they're just £18.99 each.
Snow + Rock has a good selection of cute patterned wellies for £24.95 a pair or if you'd rather just have a plain pair, Hunter unisex wellingtons are just £19.99 at Blacks.
Gadgets & Accessories
Festival Kit
Ideal for the forgetful among you - this clever little kit from Eurohike has all you'll need. Headtorch, wet wipes, soap leaves, a whistle, matches, earplugs, a rain poncho, toothbrush, toothpaste, a pocket mirror, a camping tool which includes a knife, fork ,spoon and a bottle and can opener, and a light stick. All this fits into a drawstring bag which goes inside a one litre widemouth water bottle! Get it for just £14.99 at Millets.
Spork
Every camper's favourite gadget the spork, is a must have for festivals. This clever little gizmo is a piece of durable plastic with a fork at one end, and a spoon at the other and comes in a variety of colours. Get yourself one from Snow + Rock for £1.99.
Head Torch
Ok, it isn't the most stylish of accessories but it's invaluable for any sort of camping. This nifty little one from Blacks is just £12.99 and unclips from the headband so the really fashion conscious can just use it like a normal torch.
Camping Chair
One of the things you think you won't need, but are so grateful for when you have it. Get your hands on a great value one from Aldi - it's got a cup holder, a storage bag, comes in 3 colours and is just £5.99
