An unusual way to get a discount, through a bulk-buying website with a difference
Filed under: Savvy Shopper, Technology and Online
We all know about the joys of bulk-buying. We've all had those flashes of insanity that seem like brilliance at the time. We've all been to the supermarket for a pint of milk and returned with a gallon because it was on special offer. We know that the draw of bulk buying needs to be tempered with a large dose of reality and caution. It means most of us tend to steer clear of bulk buying websites unless we're getting married or throwing a massive party, and we actually need 400 paper plates.
However, there's a new site that offers a different take on bulk-buying, which means you only actually buy what you need, and you still get a brilliant bargain.
The site is groupola.com, and it works by grouping together its users. Every day it offers a particular deal, which may be 50% off a balloon flight, or 80% off gym membership, or even 90% off a restaurant meal. If you sign up for a deal, the site will group you together with all its other users who have signed up, and get the bulk deal for all of you.
There are a couple of catches. Firstly at the moment there's not a huge amount to choose from as the site hasn't been around all that long, so its a case of browsing regularly to see if anything new comes up for you.
Secondly, you only get the deal if enough people sign up. It means you don't buy things then and there, you sign up to say you want it, and your payment only goes through if there are enough of you.
In the early days this means some of the daily deals may not fill their quota.
However, as the site gets more popular, it should be a brilliant way to bag a bargain.
And there's no doubt that it will be popular, as the brains behind it is the same man behind myvouchercodes.co.uk, one of the earliest and most successful of the wave of voucher sites that have cropped up in recent years. In fact, if his track record is anything to go by, we should see a crop of similar sites launching any day now, meaning a whole host of opportunities to bulk buy.... without filling the fridge with milk.

this is not always true , tesco dentasticks for dogs a 28 box costs opver £4 buy them in packs of 7 97p so cheaper to buy that way not in bulk , & you can look at other items & it is cheaper to buy singles not in bulk , which is daft because i thought bulk buying was cheaper , but it pays to compare the prices of each item you going to buy,
