If a bank gives you £1,000 by accident, you might be able to keep it

If your bank accidentally credits money to your account, you may be able to keep it – but only if you're lucky. The Financial Ombudsman Service has around 100 cases each year of bank customers who have had money deposited in their accounts by mistake, and, unsurprisingly, want to hang ont to it.

Usually the Financial Ombudsman says the bank is entitled to take it back. But sometimes – perhaps it's nearly Christmas and they have all been to the pub for lunch and they are feeling a bit festive – they say it's yours.

Last minute holiday prices slashed

If you haven't booked your holiday yet, this news will be music to your ears. With the travel industry having a tough time of things this year, last-minute getaways (including those in the school holidays) are cheaper than ever.

A survey by Co-Operative Travel found the huge price cuts, which make last-minute deals up to a third cheaper compared with last year.

New research conducted by Tesco mobile reveals that many of us are frustrated by the lack of choice when it comes to mobile contracts, and feel uneasy about making long term financial commitments in the current economic climate. A quarter of us weren't happy with 18 or 24 month contracts but felt there was little alternative.

Ryanair under fire for misleading ads... again

The budget airline is under fire once again, this time for two press adverts offering £10 one-way fares to Gothenburg and Dusseldorf, which the Advertising Standards Association claims are misleading.
